Even though I live in the Scottish Borders, I no longer use Edinburgh airport. Either Newcastle or sometimes Manchester. The reason? Primarily the brutal rudeness of the airport staff and the appearance that stupidity is viewed as a virtue amongst the staff. Otherwise, read the other reviews and decide for yourself.

The worst airport in the UK. Airport is miss managed and a national disgrace to Scotland. They appear to be more focused on creating retail space for revenue than providing customer service areas. The Checkin hall is far too small and desperately needs expanding. Security was a joke and staff are rude. They treat customers like cattle. I noticed that the touch pads have been removed from the customer satisfaction stations at departures. The Board and Chairperson need to go.

I'm shocked and embarrassed by what I encountered at the airport in Edinburgh. I’ve just returned from a holiday with my family of four, including a 4-month-old daughter and a 6-year-old, five suitcases, three backpacks, and a car seat. I’ve never come across paid luggage trolleys at an airport before. Well done, Scotland, well done, Edinburgh. What they say about you being stingy is true, but I didn’t know you were this stingy. Shameful.

Welcome to the third world. Scotland is a disgrace, and its capital's airport typifies its decline and decay. The journey from plane toborder is ugly, dirty, smells of mould, and has many stairs. Baggage delivery is pitifully slow.

Edinburgh Airport is an absolute disgrace. I actually could not believe what I was seeing yesterday. I flew in from Dubai via Amsterdam into Scotlands capital city Edinburgh airport and felt an instant sense of disbelief, shame and embarrassment. Ceiling tiles, missing from ceiling were lying on walkway of passengers entrance to passport control, a cardboard box holding a door open and very dirty walls. First impressions !!! On entering passport control area the floor was disgustingly dirty with black blobs of stuff, no idea what it was and just so dirty. So onto winding your way to get to a passport office Took ages so plenty of time to view this disgusting area. Five passport control officers sitting at desks but we were all ushered to self scan area. Is there a point to their presence?? However our bags were on the carousel by the time we entered luggage reclaim area so one star given for that. Edinburgh Airport is an absolute disgrace to Scotland and as proud Scott I’d like to say the management of this airport is not good enough.

I travel regularly with my job and have been through around 15 different airport terminals this year. When flying from Scotland, I normally fly from Glasgow which is normally reasonably efficient and tidy. This week I flew from Edinburgh to Italy with my family for a short break. I was extremely disappointed with the inefficiency, untidiness and general lack of a sense of pride that appears to be taken in the running of Edinburgh airport. No set of steps appeared for rear of the plane until nearly everyone was as off, resulting in us being almost last off the flight. To add to the frustration we felt from this, we then had to wait for 40 minutes in a queue at passport control. While these issues might be explained by one off staffing issues or other exceptional operational problems, what I can’t excuse is the grubbiness, untidiness and complete lack of a sense of care that appears to be taken in the airport. As a proud Scot, I was wondering what my first impression would have been if I’d been an international traveller arriving in Scotland for the first time. I have to say Edinburgh Airport compares unfavourably with every other airport I’ve been through over recent times. It conveys a real lack of pride and little interest being taken in the passenger experience. This is just not good enough for such a key gateway to our fantastic country.

I would like to help prepare any international customers flying into Edinburgh airport for a depressing experience. You will arrive into ‘sheds’ with dirty floors and with quite grotesque murals on the walls. You will have to carry your hand luggage up and down several stairs. You will be met by staff some of whom will seem to resent you being there. You will wait endlessly on our luggage coming through on a dirty conveyor belt and in what you may regard as a final insult you will be asked to pay to ‘RENT’ a trolley. Please be assured once clear of the airport things should get better!

Edinburgh airport is a disgrace. People arrive into ‘sheds’ with dirty floors and have to climb up and down stairs with their carry-on luggage then in a final insult have to pay to rent a trolley. This airport belongs in some third world country.

Edinburgh Airport is my local airport. In the last decade or so it has expanded somewhat and they have tried to keep up with the expansion of airlines, flights, in & out with the infrastructure but have epically failed each time. I used to be a frequent BA flyer then Easyjet on business and used this airport a lot, it didn't used to be so bad however, it has changed beyond recognition and not for the good. I've had occasion before to comment to the CEO regarding the state of security, or the lack of, too much chatting, un-professional conduct, not paying attention then there's the surly "I've got a uniform on so I'll be as rude as I like " lot. My complaints didn't even rate a reply. Security is all important and needs to be right 100% of the time. I'll start here with this last weekends trip out to France. Friday 4am. Massive queue's to check in baggage, not enough staff, those that were there and certainly the Man who dealt with us was just so miserable, no smile, no chit chat, nothing, a rude and surly Man and I have no idea how he got the job. Then security, OMG. Security at Edinburgh is always, always busy unless you transit through last thing at night. Massive winding queue's, surly miserable staff. A lot of which have never done a customer related job in their lives or have just given up, maybe it's the training? They are there to SERVE not shout and bark out orders like they're trying for a job with the STAZI. Rude doesn't cover it. They have no empathy for those struggling to navigate the ever changing rules and regulations, shoes off, Men only, belt on or off who knows, do this, do that, its a total minefield and changes every time I pass through which thankfully isn't that often these days. I had an eyeballing session with one guy who was obviously p*ssed with his power and the next thing that occurred, guess who was being pulled over for extra attention, me of course, so then this Female takes her time checking my rucksack, doing the bit with the wipes etc etc, my Family looked on and all said it was definitely deliberate. Enough of security as its not likely to ever change especially given the type of people they appear to enjoy recruiting. Time to walk the dreaded yellow brick road through all the so called tax free Booz and what have you, try getting through that in a hurry, its designed to force you to a halt and they want your money, end of. Then into the departure lounge, whoever thought it classed as a lounge was mad, its a bear pit, queue's for everything, even to get into Witherspoons pub, nowhere decent to sit down and which is not a pub related establishment to eat and drink something decent pre flight. I felt sorry for the Family's with their kids, absolutely horrendous and of course, no help anywhere if you need it but plenty of people happy to bark orders at you. We used to use the private lounges but even they're now well over priced with time constraints and your'e restricted to just how much you eat and drink whilst attempting to relax in there. I will remove the top end lounges here as they're not for the general holiday traveller. If you've survived all that then its time to go and queue for your flight and get ready to stand on a flight of steps for ages after being "boarded" or stand in a line on a ramp waiting to board, a fix I believe so airlines and the airports can say we boarded them on time, oh no you did not. Thank God for the sanity of an aircraft cabin (depending on the airline) and some decent service from people with smiles on their faces. I dread our next visit but at least we won't have two teenage Grandkids in tow both wondering what carnage have they been introduced to. Whatever happened to the joy of going to an airport and off on holiday, pleasure's long lost. Adrian/Fife.

Only "budget"airlines fly to Portugal and other European countries if you want to travel with a better airline such as KLM or TAP you need to go to Manchester. Edinburgh is a capital should have better options

Excellent from start to finish. I needed wheelchair assistance and I was helped by Niamh who was bright upbeat, cheerful and extremely helpful. The assistance lounge was commanded by a charming gentleman from Latvia. Check in with Qatar airlines was also excellent. It was the last desk with a small check-in assistant that’s the only way I can describe her called Melina She was very helpful very kind very efficient but I’m sorry I can’t remember her name .(she’s just returned my passport cover which had €200 in it and she followed me to the gate to give me the cover which as I say contained the €200 absolutely amazing , gosh the honesty and everything elss It Was the best security I’ve ever been through in my life very helpful very pleasant no stress. I think the name was Rob . Even after a bottle of perfume was found which I had left in my bag by mistake,I was Spoken to as an adult which makes a change for airport security who usually make you feel guilty and seem to o take great delight in being as slow as possible. So I’ll be flying through Edinburgh again. Great start to my trip to India. Thank you.

Grubby and tired looking. No charging points and very little seating. Felt that we passengers were a nuisance and we should leave as soon as possible. Too small for the numbers going though. Not a pleasant place.

Arrived 2 October from Paris on Easy Jet. No complaints about airline. Passport control needs more technology and staff. A bit like a cattle market. Cleanliness another issue. Womens toilet disgraceful. Floors dirty. Overheard: what must foreigners think of this? Prompt action is required. Compared to CDG, very unimpressive.

Courteous and polite staff. The issue is cleanliness. Trash littering outside the airport , in the airport, behind the check in where we drop our bags. The carpets in the plaza premium lounge are disgusting. Luckily your beautiful country and cities do not reflect the condition of the airport. Time for a remodeling!

Hi there, The baggage delivery process is the responsibility of your airline and their contracted handling agent, if you reach out to the airline directly they will be able to look into this further. Kind regards, Customer Support Team

I am in and out of this shopping Mall that pretends it’s an airport at least 29 times per year. It looks 3 rd world on entry then transforms into a tacky shopping mall . Do not expect any consideration to have been given to passengers other than how best to remove their hard earned money . It is a true embarrassment to Scotland .oh and don’t expect to pass quickly through security that too is diemal

I've been flying from Edi pretty often due to work reasons. The service at the bag drop is constantly very slow and it looks like the staff don't know what they are supposed to do. Flights are constantly delayed due to exotic reasons like staff shortages at the airport. It's very stressful to fly from this airport if you have connecting flights waiting for you at your next destination.

Terrible experience at security young guy decided he had to search me even although alarm never went off asked what was in my pocket it was a hankie put it back in my pocket he told me to take it out my pocket again never even looked inside hankie proceeded to pay me down he never checked under my arms my waist back of my trousers my back my ankles all the places likely to conceal something it was obvious he was trying to impress his young female assistant, obviously the whole job has went to his head complete waste of time
