Only "budget"airlines fly to Portugal and other European countries if you want to travel with a better airline such as KLM or TAP you need to go to Manchester. Edinburgh is a capital should have better options

Edinburgh Airport is my local airport. In the last decade or so it has expanded somewhat and they have tried to keep up with the expansion of airlines, flights, in & out with the infrastructure but have epically failed each time. I used to be a frequent BA flyer then Easyjet on business and used this airport a lot, it didn't used to be so bad however, it has changed beyond recognition and not for the good. I've had occasion before to comment to the CEO regarding the state of security, or the lack of, too much chatting, un-professional conduct, not paying attention then there's the surly "I've got a uniform on so I'll be as rude as I like " lot. My complaints didn't even rate a reply. Security is all important and needs to be right 100% of the time. I'll start here with this last weekends trip out to France. Friday 4am. Massive queue's to check in baggage, not enough staff, those that were there and certainly the Man who dealt with us was just so miserable, no smile, no chit chat, nothing, a rude and surly Man and I have no idea how he got the job. Then security, OMG. Security at Edinburgh is always, always busy unless you transit through last thing at night. Massive winding queue's, surly miserable staff. A lot of which have never done a customer related job in their lives or have just given up, maybe it's the training? They are there to SERVE not shout and bark out orders like they're trying for a job with the STAZI. Rude doesn't cover it. They have no empathy for those struggling to navigate the ever changing rules and regulations, shoes off, Men only, belt on or off who knows, do this, do that, its a total minefield and changes every time I pass through which thankfully isn't that often these days. I had an eyeballing session with one guy who was obviously p*ssed with his power and the next thing that occurred, guess who was being pulled over for extra attention, me of course, so then this Female takes her time checking my rucksack, doing the bit with the wipes etc etc, my Family looked on and all said it was definitely deliberate. Enough of security as its not likely to ever change especially given the type of people they appear to enjoy recruiting. Time to walk the dreaded yellow brick road through all the so called tax free Booz and what have you, try getting through that in a hurry, its designed to force you to a halt and they want your money, end of. Then into the departure lounge, whoever thought it classed as a lounge was mad, its a bear pit, queue's for everything, even to get into Witherspoons pub, nowhere decent to sit down which is not a pub related establishment to eat and drink something decent pre flight. I felt sorry for the Family's with their kids, absolutely horrendous and of course, no help anywhere if you need it but plenty of people happy to bark orders at you. We used to use the private lounges but even they're now well over priced with time constraints and your'e restricted to just how much you eat and drink whilst attempting to relax in there. I will remove the top end lounges here as they're not for the general holiday traveller. If you've survived all that then its time to go and queue for your flight and get ready to stand on a flight of steps for ages after being "boarded" or stand in a line on a ramp waiting to board, a fix I believe so airlines and the airports can say we boarded them on time, oh no you did not. Thank God for the sanity of an aircraft cabin (depending on the airline) and some decent service from people with smiles on their faces. I dread our next visit but at least we won't have two teenage Grandkids in tow both wondering what carnage have they been introduced to. Good luck and hope you enjoy your trip.

Excellent from start to finish. I needed wheelchair assistance and I was helped by Niamh who was bright upbeat, cheerful and extremely helpful. The assistance lounge was commanded by a charming gentleman from Latvia. Check in with Qatar airlines was also excellent. It was the last desk with a small check-in assistant that’s the only way I can describe her called Melina She was very helpful very kind very efficient but I’m sorry I can’t remember her name .(she’s just returned my passport cover which had €200 in it and she followed me to the gate to give me the cover which as I say contained the €200 absolutely amazing , gosh the honesty and everything elss It Was the best security I’ve ever been through in my life very helpful very pleasant no stress. I think the name was Rob . Even after a bottle of perfume was found which I had left in my bag by mistake,I was Spoken to as an adult which makes a change for airport security who usually make you feel guilty and seem to o take great delight in being as slow as possible. So I’ll be flying through Edinburgh again. Great start to my trip to India. Thank you.

Grubby and tired looking. No charging points and very little seating. Felt that we passengers were a nuisance and we should leave as soon as possible. Too small for the numbers going though. Not a pleasant place.

Arrived 2 October from Paris on Easy Jet. No complaints about airline. Passport control needs more technology and staff. A bit like a cattle market. Cleanliness another issue. Womens toilet disgraceful. Floors dirty. Overheard: what must foreigners think of this? Prompt action is required. Compared to CDG, very unimpressive.

Courteous and polite staff. The issue is cleanliness. Trash littering outside the airport , in the airport, behind the check in where we drop our bags. The carpets in the plaza premium lounge are disgusting. Luckily your beautiful country and cities do not reflect the condition of the airport. Time for a remodeling!

Still waiting for baggage after an hour!! Edinburgh Airport is so poorly managed, what a shambles!

Hi there, The baggage delivery process is the responsibility of your airline and their contracted handling agent, if you reach out to the airline directly they will be able to look into this further. Kind regards, Customer Support Team

I am in and out of this shopping Mall that pretends it’s an airport at least 29 times per year. It looks 3 rd world on entry then transforms into a tacky shopping mall . Do not expect any consideration to have been given to passengers other than how best to remove their hard earned money . It is a true embarrassment to Scotland .oh and don’t expect to pass quickly through security that too is diemal

I've been flying from Edi pretty often due to work reasons. The service at the bag drop is constantly very slow and it looks like the staff don't know what they are supposed to do. Flights are constantly delayed due to exotic reasons like staff shortages at the airport. It's very stressful to fly from this airport if you have connecting flights waiting for you at your next destination.

Terrible experience at security young guy decided he had to search me even although alarm never went off asked what was in my pocket it was a hankie put it back in my pocket he told me to take it out my pocket again never even looked inside hankie proceeded to pay me down he never checked under my arms my waist back of my trousers my back my ankles all the places likely to conceal something it was obvious he was trying to impress his young female assistant, obviously the whole job has went to his head complete waste of time

Shocking that they are now charging £1 to use luggage trolley 😱, Trying to squeeze every last penny out of you before you exit the airport. Absolutely Shameful. Also the fast track parking was good going in, but a nightmare getting out, 4 lanes merging into one to exit car park, like the wacky races. Gate system should at least allow the traffic through in an orderly fashion.

Thank you for your review. The trolley charge was introduced on 1st July 2024. The charge supports the 10 dedicated staff we have, who work continuously across each day to provide our customers with a trolley at the right time and at the right place. Though the trolley charge is new to Edinburgh Airport, many airports across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world have introduced a trolley charge in recent years. Kind regards, Customer Support Team

I’m a native Scot living in Australia and travel back and forth regularly. Edinburgh airport - which used to be a super efficient airport (tram straight up the door, good cafes, easy to use) has become an absolute shocker. All flights (international and domestic) pass through the same terminal which hasn’t been upgraded to cope with the volume of people. Check in and bag drop off are chaotic. Security is a nightmare with far too few terminals and staff. Too few cafes, not enough seating, delayed flights. I could go on. Such a contrast from Sydney which was a breeze - online checkin, automatic bag drop, no queues - from arrival outside the airport to lounge took about 20 mins (as opposed to more than an hour in Edinburgh ). I’d suggest for a start that it seriously needs separate terminals for domestic and international traffic.

I am only responding re the options available on the website for collecting a passenger from the arrivals. The charge regime for any option is just plain greed compared with other airports I have used. The 'free' carpark times are just ridiculously short if it takes 10 minutes to walk to and from such a car park so only 10 minutes left for actual pickup. Greed.

I travel the world and have experienced multiple airport . Edinburgh airport is the worst airport I have ever experienced, by far! . I usually do not write reviews, but I am so shocked by this airport, that I need to share my experience. It is filthy, out-dated , no space to sit , unclaimed luggage left at arrival zone without supervision . This is an embarrassment for Scotland .

Arrived early morning to a very large queue for Passport Control (Not enough gates). When eventually clear we then had to wait an inordinate time for our baggage. In total it took around 1 1/2 hrs to get through. More Staff, more gates, more baggage belts, or something needed to help flow of passengers through the airport.

Thank you for your review. I appreciate the frustration that can be caused by baggage waits, and this is clearly not the experience we want passengers to have. It’s important to note that the transportation and delivery of baggage is the responsibility of handling agents, and these companies are contracted by airlines to fulfil this role. This is not something the airport itself has direct involvement in. This is not us passing the buck, or shifting the blame elsewhere, but just the way the process works. It’s important we provide this context to help you understand the roles and responsibilities. Kind regards, Customer Support Team

I have been to the airport twice and both times I have wanted to buy a krispy kreme donut before my flight but unfortunately there has never been anyone at cash register to serve the donuts. I don’t know if the krispy kreme kiosk has just been forgotten or maybe the workers just don’t care about serving customers. Next time I might just consider taking a donut myself and leaving a few pounds on the till.

Bags checked in then escalators closed to go into departures. We were redirected outside into baking heat and then into the escalators to find they had been opened to later passengers first. Security was a mess and not clear if they followed rival airports new processes. A man lost his iPad as a result. Directed to gate only to be told the gate had changed to the other side of the airport where there were no seats and had to wait ages for incoming flight to disembark. It was clear the airport cannot cope with the throughput.

Me and my family visitted Scotland and Edinburgh Airport for the first time last Thursday on a flight from Billund with Ryan Air. We flew back today (this Thursday). Our arrival we waited for 1 hour and 45 minute for our luggage. At least 10 later arrivals got their luggage before people from the plane we were on. The luggae were handled by Swissport. We have now read a lot of reviews on Swissport and it seems that Swissport is an absolute dissasterious company. I do not understand what they are still doing in Edinburgh Airport. On our way back today we were boarded by a very grumpy female employee carrying a Swissport-west. She was yelling disgrafully at the passengers. Otherwise other things seems to function at the airport today. We was rather quickly through the bagdrop and was kindly guided through security. So thats possitive. Upon all the other reviews on Swissport and our own experiences, I would strongly recommend that Edinburgh Airport finds a replacement for Swissport. We are reluctant to return to Edinburgh Airport as long as we risk our luggage being handled by Swissport.
