It was not a bad experience, I feel when you arrive and enter the airport, it is cluttered and confusing. Although it Is clean and the staff are helpful. There is too much in too little a space.

It was my first time to travel in Europe, and I had an amazing and unforgettable experienced. I shall say that Edinburgh is quiet a place. I will surely miss this country.

First I will describe the part that made me unhappy. Immigration personnel had grouped themselves together to provide quick processing to holders of EU passports and almost no processing to all others. On my flight "all others" was the vast majority. A large number of sleep deprived people being made to wait too long did not feel like a friendly welcome. After the immigration everything else was quick and easy. Thank you for that.

Easy to park. Bus picks you up at car park and airport swiftly. No frills but no hassle. Have used you many times and will do so again.

I've been using this airport for the past 10 years. In all that time there has been a sign in the ladies toilets saying that the water to the hand basins is very hot. And it is. Very hot. Too hot to actually be useful for washing hands because it burns the skin. It is totally unhygienic. What is the excuse? You know there is a problem. You know the water is very hot. FIX IT.

It is a compact, well-designed airport. I believe you make a significant mistake by not informing first-time flyers about the many choice past the security checkpoint. We had a few hours to wait and would have preferred to have shopped and eaten after going thru security. Let people know about the good choices.

Edinburgh airport is invariably a poor experience with a remarkable level of avoidable frustrations for the ordinary passenger. Staff try to be helpful and are always polite but there appear to be fundamental systemic problems that are beyond the capability of management to solve. I have been on the point of writing to complain about experiences of Edinburgh airport several times but when one gets home and start to deal with day to day stuff it falls by the way. I could write about the 2 hours it took to check in to a Chicago flight leaving barely enough time to clear security and get to the gate or all the luggage having to be unloaded and reloaded delaying our flight to Schipol jeapordising our connection to Panama (many on our flight did miss connections) or standing in the rain outside immigration on our way home from Copenhagen for 10 minutes having already waited 20 minutes for a set of steps to be found to allow us to disembark, a part of the now typical 75-90 minutes it takes between touching down and leaving the building to get a taxi. I could complain about the 75 minute wait for luggage to start appearing on the carousel between 6.30 and 7.45 am on a Sunday coming home from Newark -long overnight flight. The last two were a pain but more than that there were a lot of visitors to Edinburgh on those flights and quite frankly as a native of the city I was embarrassed. The airport arrival experience is consistently the poorest of all airports I visit. The departure when luggage check in is needed is disorganised and extraordinarily time consuming. Much worse than any other airport I can remember using. I will not talk about these incidents because they have been eclipsed by coming home from Nice on Sunday last. The flight was already c30minutes late when we landed at "local time" 11.45pm. That , of course is no fault of the airport however what followed was. There was no stand available so we had to wait in our seats for nearly 45 minutes that is until 12.30 am before we were able to start leaving the plane and join a huge queue at Immigration - another 30 minutes - and so even with only carry on it still took over 75 minutes to leave the building and get a taxi. I keep hearing how well Edinburgh is doing. How passenger numbers are up. However , talking with friends and colleagues , who have similar and even worse tales than mine , they use "their " airport with weary resignation and indeed avoid using it if they can reasonably do so. Many like me never fly to London on business anymore. The train works well and a 30 minute delay results in a refund of 50% of the fare. For overseas trips Newcastle airport is a lot more convenient than one might think and often a lot cheaper particularly with a family of five. If I served my clients the way I have been served by Edinburgh airport , I would not have any clients. Quite frankly there is a reliance on a combination of the perception that there is no reasonable alternative and travelling passenger inertia for repeat business. I must say staff always seem courteous if a bit frazzled particularly on check in and try to be helpful. The problems seem systemic and clearly to be to do with organisation and management. I am sorry to be so critical . I would love to be positive but candidly , at best the airport offers an experience to be endured. It was not always like this . It used to be an exciting start to the journey. Paul Renz
